Softies are a great beginner coral. They do not build skeleton, therefore do not require calcium and alkalinity supplement. They can tolerate a wide range of water conditions, tend to be relatively inexpensive, and typically grow quickly, sometimes too quickly. So as with any coral, careful placement consideration is warranted.
